G.I. Joe Movie News

New news on the cast . . .

Ray Park (Toad in X-Men, soon to be the star of Iron Fist) as Snake Eyes.
Sienna Miller (Stardust, Alfie, Layer Cake) as Baroness.
Korean-born star Byung-Hun Lee (Jet Li's Hero) will be playing Tommy S. Arashikage (aka Storm Shadow)
Rachel Nichols (Charlie Wilson's War, The Amityville Horror) has been set to play Shana "Scarlett" O'Hara.

Plot Summary: The movie will be a modern telling of the "G.I. Joe vs. Cobra" storyline first told by Hasbro 25 years ago in their "Real American Hero" era of their G.I Joe action figure line. The premise of this fantasy is the story of the G.I. Joe team, led by Duke, and their "fight for freedom wherever there is trouble" against the evil Cobra Commander and his Cobra force. This storyline was an instant hit with kids in the early 1980s, spawning a highly popular 3-3/4-inch action figure line, comic book collection and animated series. The G.I. Joe team be based out of the "Pit" as they were throughout the 1980s comic book series. And, in keeping with the G.I. Joe vs. Cobra fantasy, the movie will feature characters and locations from around the world. Duke, the lead character and head of the G.I. Joe team, will embody the values of bravery and heroism that the first generation of G.I. Joe figures established.

The New K.I.T.T.

The new Knight Rider is under production and the new K.I.T.T. is on display.

The producers Glen Larson, Doug Liman, Dave Barton & Steve Shill are switching the central character to a 550 HP Ford Shelby GT500KR Mustang. The show will star Justin Bruening, Deanna Russo, Bruce Davison, David Hasselhoff, Sydney Tamiia Poitier, Wayne Kasserman and Greg Ellis. NBC plans to air the two hour movie/pilot sometime in mid-2008.

Plot Concept: Tracer is recruited by his childhood best friend, Sarah Graiman (Deanna Russo), and her eccentric physicist father, Charles (Davison), to join the Knight Foundation, a group committed to counteracting and preventing the damage done by private, covert military contractors. To assist their missions, Charles creates the second-generation KITT, an artificially intelligent car. A shady millionaire approaches Charles to commission a KITT car, and when Charles refuses, he hires a military contractor to murder him and steal the car.

John Singleton directing A-Team movie

Director John Singleton confirmed to Black Voices that he will be directing the big screen adaptation of THE A-TEAM.
The new movie will be updating the 80's show to include a more serious approach at the story and the era will be updated to present day and away from the Vietnam Era.

Dragon Ball Live Action Movie

The Dragon Ball live action flick is under production!
From the Left: Justin Chatwin(War of the Worlds, The Invisible) is Goku, Joon Park (also in Speed Racer) is Yamcha, Eriko Tamura (Heroes) is Mai, James Marsters (Spike from Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel) as Piccolo, Jamie Chung (Real World, some TV spots) as Chi-Chi and Emmy Rossum (Poseidon, Day After Tomorrow) as an unknown character - most likely Bulma.
Dragon Ball is being directed by James Wong (Writer & Directer of Final Destination 1&3 and The One with Jet Li). Stephen Chow (Kung Fu Hustle, Shaolin Soccer) is producing.
For those not in the know, Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, and Dragon Ball GT are among the most popular series of Japanese animation to ever hit the States. The series pretty much put Cartoon Network on the map with adults. It is a very long story with a huge list of possible characters and situations. It was always slightly goofy with the character names: They fight an evil wizard named Bibidi whose son Babidi releases his most evil creation, Buu. Bulma's last name is Briefs and her two children (in DBGT) are Trunks and Bulla (meaning Bra).
Anyway should be fun to watch

Heroes gets a dose of New Orleans reality with Dana Davis

if you saw this weeks episode, you know her power is cool as hell

Dana Davis, one of the new actors for Season 2 of NBC's Heroes, said her character, Monica, in some ways is like Hiro from Season 1.
"It's top-secret what my ability is," Davis said. "But I can say that a lot of characters in Heroes don't embrace their abilities, but Monica does. It's fun what her ability is, and it's so exciting. And it changes her life because life's sort of dealt her a bad hand of cards and here's this thing and it excites her and it gives her a one-way ticket out of her life, which kind of sucks.
"So, she's really excited about it. And I think it's fun she brings that excitement to it."

Davis said unlike most Heroes characters, Monica doesn't seem burdened by her powers.
"In the first season, Hiro was very excited about his powers," Davis said. "And as he is maturing, he is going through different phases. And I think Monica is bringing back that excitement and energy to having powers."
Monica is the cousin of Micah Sanders, who, at the end of last Monday's episode, was dropped off by his mother Niki to live with the extended family for a spell.
"We find Monica in post-Katrina New Orleans," Davis said. "She lost her family in the hurricane. Micah goes to stay with his cousins, and she's sort of taking care of the family. In the hurricane, she lost her family and she becomes the bread-winner of the family.
"So she's working this dead-end job at the Burger Bonanza. And she's taking care of her little brother and her grandmother, and now she's taking care of Micah as well."

Stewie to Kill Lois?!?!?

Fox has released a description and promotional image from "Stewie Kills Lois," the 100th episode of Family Guy scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 4.

Here's how the network describes the episode:

"Lois and Peter go on a cruise, leaving Stewie and the family behind. Upset with Lois for leaving him at home, Stewie vows to carry out a diabolical plan. When Brian challenges him to actually do it, Stewie stows away on the ship, finds Lois and ... well ... the title of the episode says it all."

Thunder . . .Thunder . . Thundercats .. HO!

Video game veteran Jerry O'Flaherty will direct Warner Bros.' CG-animated Thundercats feature, based on the popular '80s cartoon series, comic book and toy line.

The project marks the first feature directing gig for O'Flaherty, who served as an art director on such bestselling games as "Gears of War" and "Unreal Tournament 3" for Epic Games and the "Command and Conquer" series from Westwood Studios.

"It feels like a natural thing for me to step into," O'Flaherty said. "Games have come so far now. The last four years of my life have been about bringing the energy of filmmaking into the video game experience."

O'Flaherty will now work with screenwriter Paul Sopocy on the script.

Warner-based Paula Weinstein will produce through her Spring Creek Productions, along with Dick Robertson and Lew Korman.

The origin story expands on the major heroes and villains from the animated series, with the plot focusing on Lion-O coming of age as the leader of the Thundercats.

The property revolves around a group of humanoid cats who must flee the planet of Thundera, which is destroyed. Once crash-landing on another planet, Third Earth, they must thwart Mumm-Ra, an evil sorcerer bent on killing them off.

Janet in the studio with Marooned 5

Janet Jackson is currently working on her new studio album and recently boyfriend producer Jermaine Dupri talked to MTV News about the record:

"Probably in February or March or the summer," JD said. "It's 45 percent done. Singer/songwriter The-Dream has a song on her album, as does Rodney Jerkins. It's gonna be a crazy album. It's a Janet record. I'm A&R-ing, and I'm probably going to be the executive producer. But I'm getting records she likes and pulling records from other people. She has a duet with Maroon 5. Just little things."

Eve album pushed back again

Rapper Eve in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, talked about her forthcoming album titled "Here I Am" which originally was due for release in October and now delayed until 2008:
EW: What's going on here? Why so many delays with this album? Are you scrapping the whole thing and starting over?
EVE: No, I'm not completely starting over. I'm definitely gonna keep some of the records that I had because I love a lot of the stuff that I did. So I'm keeping a lot of it. I'm just going back in to kinda make it a well-rounded album. I think what kind of delayed us this time was that I went in and did two records that sound a lot like the Pharrell record — the singing record.... I don't think the movement was right and I'd rather put out an album and feel 100 percent connected to it than just to put out an album, especially the way music is right now.
EW: So what's the latest release date for the album?
EVE: Some time next year. I know [Laughs]. It's like I've been trying to push this baby out for a year, okay! Trust me, it is really crazy. It's the longest labor on earth! But honestly, I feel okay about it. It'll be some time next year.

Cameron Post #2: Bullet Points on BATTLE ANGEL

  • The main character, even though it's a live action film, will be done with CG animation and will be shot in 3D using the stereo imaging system that James Cameron had been developing for his documentaries.

  • Will include roughly 1,500 visual effects shots.

  • James Cameron confirmed in an interview that this will be a combination of the first three books in Yukito Kishiro's series of graphic novels. In another interview, Cameron also said that should this film be successful, he hopes to make another two "Battle Angel" films.
By the intended release date of Summer 2009, Cameron hopes that around a thousand theaters across North America will have been equipped with special 3D digital projectors that will be able to screen the movie.

  • Based on the Japanese manga, "Gunnm". The comic was released in North America under the title "Battle Angel Alita".

James Cameron Post #1

Speaking of Zoe Saldana . . .
She is also set to star as Neytiri in the upcoming film Avatar, being Directed by James Cameron.
Michelle Rodrigez, Sigourney Weaver, CCH Pounder, and Laz Alonzo join Saldana in the flim, which is supposed to hit the screens in 2009. The film will be shot using Cameron's new 3-D camera technology and virtual studio.
Avatar's reported plot break down is :
In the future, Jake, a paraplegic war veteran, is brought to another planet, Pandora, which is inhabited by the Na'vi, a humanoid race with their own language and culture. Those from Earth find themselves at odds with each other and the local culture.

Michael Bay Says . . .

Director Michael Bay has posted some new thoughts over at his official site's forums in regards to the IMAX edition of TRANSFORMERS and some thoughts on the sequel:

"But I just saw the first IMAX print of 'Transformers'. Not depressing - freakin AWESOME! They need to bottle the magic of IMAX because it's the future of cinema."It comes out next Friday the 21st. I added some extra scenes."'Transformers 2', well that's another story. Iching [sic] to work pre-strike (June) so I might jump ship and come back a year or so later cause people at the studio have been dragging for two months. Not sure why. I'll keep you informed."

Damn the possible strike! Unless the opposing sides reach an agreement before the June 2008 strike, no movies or TV shows will be getting greenlit any time soon.

Jason's Back?

Ryan Rotten is reporting that the next installment of FRIDAY THE 13TH is finally getting prepped for the big screen after years of development hell. The production staff over at Platinum Dunes have been trying to get this film made(unsuccessfully) since the feature film FREDDY VS. JASON, hit theaters in 2003. The film featuring both killers would go on to grab 82.6 million(114.9 mil worldwide) on a 30 million dollar budget.. In the process of this latest quagmire, they've had to ditch a few written drafts and a writer, Mark Wheaton(The Messengers). The new writers hired for the project are Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, the same duo behind FvJ. While we don't know if the original director Jonathan Liebesman is still attached to the project, we do know now that Platinum Dunes is fast tracking this film to the big screen. They want to begin filming in early 2008 and have it fully shot before the impending strike in June.
Its strange that they are calling this a remake, as the plans thus far seem to be far from the original - this would be a film about only Jason Voorhees and not his mother, Pamela, who is the actual killer in the original film of the franchise. They played that up throughout the films, and even in FvJ.
Time will tell . . .

Zoe Saldana as Uhura

from Cinescape:

Zoe Saldana (Haven, Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, Guess Who?, Drumline, and the upcoming Avatar) will be entering the world of STAR TREK in JJ Abram's upcoming installment. The trades, Variety and Hollywood Reporter, are now confirming her casting as Starfleet communications officer, Lt. Uhura. She joins Zachary Quinto (Younger Spock), Leonard Nimoy(Older Spock) and Anton Yelchin (Pavel Chekov) aboard the next theatrical mission of the Enterprise. Transformers scribes, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, handled the screenplay for director JJ Abrams and producers Damon Lindelof & Bryan Burk. Filming will begin this fall on the feature film.
STAR TREK hits theaters everywhere Christmas Day 2008.

J Hud having Sex in the City, visiting Sesame Street

Jennifer Hudson has joined the cast of "Sex and the City: The Movie" that begins shooting next week in New York City. J.Hud will play the assistant of Sarah Jessica Parker named Carrie Bradshaw. The movie is expected to hit theaters in 2008.

The hit television comedy series is being made for the screen by New Line in association with HBO. Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon and Chris Noth are all on board to reprise their roles and the show's longtime executive producer, Michael Patrick King, is set to write and direct.

Foxy & her unborn child sentenced to a year . . .

NEW YORK - Foxy Brown was sentenced Friday to one year in jail for violating probation that stemmed from a fight with two manicurists in a New York City nail salon three years ago. “I’m not going to give you any more chances,” Criminal Court Judge Melissa Jackson told the 28-year-old rapper. “I hope you turn your life around and never again have to stand in a court of law.” Probation Department officials asked for the hearing after Brown, whose real name is Inga Marchand, was arrested Aug. 14 in Brooklyn on charges of assaulting Arlene Raymond, 25.

Street Fighter Flick

Another classic best selling arcade game is prepped for a live-action adaptation inside Hollywood, says Variety. Just a few days after a Joust film was announced, the trade is reporting that Fox and Capcom has chosen director Andrzej Bartkowiak(Doom, Romeo Must Die) to lead up the next version of STREET FIGHTER to the big screen. Filming is to begin early 2008 with production being handled by Hyde Park Entertainment. This adaptation will be based off a script from Justin Marks, the same screenwriter handling the next version of He-Man:Masters of the Universe. This isn't the first time a SF movie made its way to the big screen. Back in 94, Jean Claude Van Damme starred in a version from Universal Pictures.
This SF adaptation will focus on Chun Li, the female fighter looking for justice.
Also, for fans of these flicks and fighting games in general . . . The "Dead or Alive" movie does not suck. It is completely over the top, but fun to watch and well done for what it is.

Spidey making Robotech Movie?

E-Dub mentioned this rumor to me . . .

Cinescape says:

It seems that Spidey star, Tobey Maguire, may be ditching his web persona for a while in favor of giant robots in ROBOTECH, says Hollywood Reporter. The trade is reporting that Maguire and Warner Bros have optioned the rights to the anime manga franchise based off the hit 1980s show. Maguire will help produce the live action feature film under his production company, Maguire Entertainment. Both Maguire and Warner Bros hopes to turn this into the next big sci-fi franchise and is setting it up to be a major tent-pole release.
"We are very excited to bring 'Robotech' to the big screen," Maguire said. "There is a rich mythology that will be a great foundation for a sophisticated, smart and entertaining film."

Lost Boys Sequel News Round-Up

Some facts and details have emerged online lately over the sequel, LOST BOYS 2: THE TRIBE, which hits DVD next year. Previous reports had both Coreys (Feldman and Haim) & the other Frog brother, Jamison Newlander, also set to appear in this sequel. Apparently, that information may only be half correct because it's being reported now that Corey Haim is angry at Corey Feldman over that much talked about leaked emotional moment that appeared on the "Two Coreys" special. Haim has talked about this apparent feud that Feldman doesn't even know about to MTV recently. If this anger from Haim is real (and not staged which is a possibility here), then only the Frog brothers(Corey Feldman & Jamison Newlander) would be coming back for the sequel.

To see Corey Haim explain to MTV why he's angry at Feldman over that leaked "emotional outburst" that appeared on A&E, click here.

New Plot Summary: This sequel takes us to the shady surf city of Luna Bay, California, where vampires quickly dispatch anyone who crosses their path. Into this dark world arrive Chris Emerson (Hilgenbrink) and his younger sister, Nicole (Reeser). Having just lost their parents in a car accident, the siblings move in with their eccentric Aunt Jillian and become new prey for the locals’ way of life. When Nicole unwittingly falls for a local vampire, Chris must locate and destroy the gang’s lifeline before his sister’s transformation is complete; to do this Chris finds himself relying on the expertise of none other than Edgar Frog (Feldman). Subtle references to characters from the original film, and cameos from returning actors offer homage to the Lost Boys legend and set a sinister tone of impending doom.

Here are some extracts where Mariah speaks about her new album, the follow-up to "The Emacipation Of Mimi", to be released in November from Interview Magazine:

IS: Give us a sneak preview. What can you tell us about the new music?

MC: It's a fun record - it's been my obsession. Look, to me, that I'm able to do what I love for a living is a gift from God. I could be doing something I hate every day. Yes, sometimes it's tough because I've got to sleep 15 hours to sing the way I want to. It's not easy because my vocal chords are different than most people's. But that aside, this album has been so much fun because I'm writing with a lot different people but mainly a lot of rappers and I will bring something to the table that they wouldn't have and vice versa.

IS: I know you're working again with Jermaine Dupri. Who else?

MC: Swiss Beats and I have been working together. He was really young when I first met him and now he's got all these Warhols - I'm like, This dude is rich! He's great. I'm really excited about a couple of songs we've done together.

IS: Is there a general theme to the new album?

MC: I sat in the hot tub the other night playing some songs for some friends and one of them felt that it was a very pro-woman kind of thing. And I was like, "You know what, I didn't do that intentionally." It is not that the songs are male-bashing, but she felt that it was very empowered-woman moment. I love to be able to play things for people who can listen to something rough. When I'm playing something for someone from the record company I need to perfect it a little bit more.

Sen. Barack Obama on 'The Daily Show'

I saw this the other night on Comedy Central. Only Jon Stewart does these kinds of interviews. Not supporting the candidate, but good to see one seemingly being honest.
